#15 If the Earth is a Curved Sphere, Why Are All Horizons Flat?

According to basic math on a curved round ball the fall off of the curve is measured miles x miles x 8 inches. This we have the following table of feet and miles raised or lowered when traveling on an curved, spheroid science calls our globe.

Miles squared X 8 inches
one foot = .000189394  miles
1 mile     5.33 ft.  .12626 mile
6 miles   24 ft.
10 miles   66.666  ft.  .2626 miles
100 miles   6,666.66 ft.  1.626 miles
1000 miles   666,666 ft.    12.2625 miles
So on a view of a horizon that stretches dozens of miles in each direction one should easily see the Earth curving away and down dozens of feet on both sides, yet we never, ever do. Even from up in a plane…because we live on a plane, not a sphere

Not much curve o’ sphere to see here.

Nor seen out of the ISS Space Station. (NASA Image)

Flaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat!

Salar de Uyuni; Flattest Place on Earth

Not one drop of a foot even over 200 miles. How can this be on a round sphere?

Salar de Uyuni (or Salar de Tunupa)[citation needed] is the world’s largest salt flat at 10,582 square kilometers (4,086 sq mi). It is located in the Daniel Campos Province in Potosí in southwest Bolivia, near the crest of the Andes and is at an elevation of 3,656 meters (11,995 ft) above mean sea level.[1]

Nile is the world’s longest river.

Nile, longest river in the world, c.4,160 mi (6,695 km). Over the last 1200 miles the the Nile flows into the Mediterranean Sea, it drops a total of 2 FEET! How can this be when the math says it must ascend and/or descend (depending on its relation to the Equator) by some 12 miles, yet it only drops 2 Feet. hmm.

First i would like to say that i am a flat-earth believer and would really appreciate if you would answer for me the following:

-My friend who is a physicist says that the earth should only curve 1m on about 7km distance. That you would always see flat at shorter distances. The measures in miles that flat-earthers usually name are from about 5 miles to max. 20 miles which according to my friend’s statement is nothing impressive to show the flat earth.
    – I would like to ask where did you get the info about the Nile river dropping only 2 ft? It is so long how could you even know such a thing?
    – I’ve noticed some debates online about that some rivers run uphill which according to the round-earth model should not happen? Is this only explained with a round earth model or is it ONLY explained on a flat earth model?

I would really appreciate if you would answer this for me and point to 100% proven things because i am sick of useless and easy explained proofs.

Look at kansas. There was a study done by a university proving that it was 400 miles long of flatness, flatter than a pancake, literally. I’m sure you can find it, it was made by globe earthers but I don’t think they realized what they measured.

      Hello my friend,

Please read about Eratosthenes of Cyrene, born in Cyrene Libya 276 BC; died 174 c. in Alexandria Egypt.

your math is wrong it is not 1 meter per 7 km

or 15 miles per 15 feet.

Always try to trick you with KM M math LOLS

that would be 1 foot for each mile in basic math.

also there is many curvature calculators available on the net.

    that is quite some curvature.

planes without a doubt would fly into space at that rate.

Even in the pictures you post you can clearly see the curve, there is air space above the hoeizon below the line drawn and I can aline the image with a flat line in my monitor and see it as well.
The reason it appears flat sometimes is when a camera has a wide angle it curves the photos, if the horizon is above half it will flatten or even curve it up.

Explain how the ISS orbits the earth if it is flat? Explain how I can look up and watch it arc across the sky in an arc that is mathematically accurate to my lattitude. Explain how the photos of the earth from the moon are round, no matter where the moon, explain how the curve of the moon is visible from satellite imagery, explain the shadow of the moon is always opposite of the sun, if it were flat you would have a gradient not a perfect shadow.

HELL explain the horizon even! If the earth were flat the sun dipping below the horizon would be instant lights off, and the light intensity would be a gradient across the entire earth as it moves through the sky.

I have been on a plane many times and I myself have seen the curve of the earth. If you look at other planets through telescopes (on certain nights) and look at the moon you will see they’re both spheres… Why would the earth be any different?
Another example of the earth being corned is how when you go higher up, you can see more. If the earth was flat this wouldn’t happen.
If the earth was flat then howcome you can fly or sail right around the globe without falling off the Edge?
You suggesting that the earth is flat sounds like you’re from the 1200’s… Let me guess, you believe the sun revolves around the earth as well?

The curvature of the earth drops 8 inches the first mile. OK, If that’s true and I traverse that mile from starting point 0 to point 1 in a straight line on a boat, it means I’ve dropped 8 inches in that mile. Then from that point number 1 I go in a straigth line to point number 2, also traversing one mile in a boat, that should mean I dropped another 8 inches. I then proceed from point 2 to point 3 in a straight line for a mile and drop another 8 inches. I then proceed from point 3 to point 4 in a straight line for a mile and drop another 8 inches. I can keep doing this for a thousand miles. After a thousand miles, did I drop 8 inches per mile for a total of 8 thousand inches? for a total of 666 feet?

As you can tell, my only interest is how much does the earth curve every time I go one mile.

If it is 6,250 miles from the North Pole to the Equator and the radius of the Earth is 3,900 miles, then the curvature of the Earth should be on average about .624 miles, per mile, because 3,900 divided by 6,250 equals .624 or 3,294 feet of drop per mile.

There needs to be a rational answer to these simple statements!!!!!

Infamous Northamerican idiot… “one foot” or rather 8 inches (to be correct) per 1 mile is the same as 1m per 7 km. Yet another proof that USA needs to get rid of idiots and of british units of measurement or learn how to use metric system.

There is no need to abuse these people for their mistakes in calculations or how they view reality or the world around them. We should strive to be teachers willing to help each other along. Life can be a painful road as it is. We need not make it harder than it has to be.

An airplane cruising at 500mph is still subject to gravity is it not? If the earth is “pulling down” the airplane will that not keep it from flying off tangent to the surface into space?

Earth is flat and is proven by no evidence of curvature. Ask engineers who have built the longest bridges in the world. These are superior examples to any images. Lake Pontchartrain Causeway is 39 miles long. Curvature is said to be 8 inches X 39 miles squared = 12168 inches = 1014 feet. This is the globe earth math so let the globe earth insanity folks explain why Lake Pontchartrain Causeway or any other structure on flat earth has no curvature.

It is stunning that slaves of the flat Earth cult still rave mindlessly about their mad delusion.

On the actual sphere we inhabit, objects moving away from the viewer disappear from the bottom up, as they move behind the curve. On the imaginary flat plane, objects moving away from the viewer would grow UNIFORMLY smaller until they disappeared altogether. That does not happen on Earth.

The Greeks understood why the Earth is a sphere over two thousand years ago. Today, a tiny internet cult swallows the snake oil of an early 19th-century religious zealot and cannot be persuaded by reason or evidence.
