    Those people on those long flights to Los Angeles who made an emergency landing in Alaska must have felt totally in the twilight zone. “How did we get all the way up here?”

    Your hand drawn flight paths on your “globe” seem to be inaccurate. For an actual flight path of the “Taiwan to Los Angeles emergency landing in Alaska”, here is one actual flight path from such a flight that shows how Alaska is not that far away: https://flightaware.com/live/flight/CAL6/history/20170201/0900Z/RCTP/KLAX

    If the reported flight was on this track, Alaska looks like a nearby place for an emergency landing.

    If you apply this type of research to the other flights, you might discover how these diverted landings make sense. Could depend on having an open mind and how you consider recorded data not trying to support pre-decided outcomes.
