NASA’s astronomical figures always sound perfectly precise, but heliocentrists have historically been notorious for regularly and drastically changing them to suit their various models. For instance, in his time Nicolas Copernicus calculated the Sun’s distance from Earth to be 3,391,200 miles. The next century Johannes Kepler decided it was actually 12,376,800 miles away. Issac Newton once said, “It matters not whether we reckon it 28 or 54 million miles distant for either would do just as well!” How scientific!? Benjamin Martin calculated between 81 and 82 million miles, Thomas Dilworth claimed 93,726,900 miles, John Hind stated positively 95,298,260 miles, Benjamin Gould said more than 96 million miles, and Christian Mayer thought it was more than 104 million! Nowadays they have settled around 93 million for the time-being.

+TFC it’s basic historical fact. the new testament gospels were written 80-100 years after Jesus supposedly died, and were written by people with political agendas.

the Jesus birth story in particular is just an amalgam of much older stories, with bits picked from the stpries of Horus, Krishna, and others. and if you go back further, it’s agreed even by christian scholars that the early books were written by several people, not just by the mytho-historical Moses figure.
if your only understanding comes through religious training, then i understand your confusion. faith tends to override inconvenient historical facts.

And now for a comment relevant to the above article: The photo of the sun shining through clouds displaying divergent rays is quite demonstrative… if only one could get a physical reference as to as to thier distance from the camera or the distance from side to side. lf you could form an equal sided triangle knowing the length of its base, then by definition you know the approximate altitude of the sun… my estimate is that we are not seeing a distance between the furthest rays of 3000 milesl more like a hundred?

Once again, the flat earth liars are leaving the atmosphere out of the equation. Those rays are diverging *in the atmosphere* and not in the emptiness of space. Once again, a very easy explanation for why the flat earth liars are…. liars.

These rays are quite interesting. Just this morning, my wife and I were driving to take me to work, and she commented on these directional rays of sunlight, and how nice they looked.
However, there was one difference in what we were looking at. The rays were emerging below the branches of many trees along a mile or more of road.
If this light was travelling directly from the sun to where we saw it, then the sun was apparently less than a hundred or so feet high. Above each and every tree we saw these rays of light emerge from.
Now, this didn’t seem possible, so a new thought was that the branches formed a “void” (think tube) among the branches, where light could be observed coming from a single direction. This totally seemed possible.
If this is how these rays are seen below tree branches, why would they be different below clouds. What about “voids” (tubular openings) inside the cloud that didn’t block the sunlight?
I think this is clearly what we were seeing.

This would be interesting, if I didn’t know anything about perspective or that the earth is round. The rays appear to converge just as railroad tracks appear to converge in the distance. Vertical is 45 degrees different from two points 1/8 the circumference of the earth.

The rays are parallel, but because they are at an angle they get nearer to the camera as they approach the ground, so they look bigger as they approach the ground. The divergence can be used to calculate the angle of the sunlight relative to the ground, but not to calculate the distance of the Sun.

+TFC sir, it’s customary when engaging in an honest exchange to not simply level charges, but to substantiate those charges. you say i am using circular logic. how so? with which words or phrases have i done that? how is the logic circular?
it also doesn’t bolster your argument (whatever it might be) to call someone names or to make assumptions about their beliefs.
are you interested in pointing out what exactly it is you have issue with and why? i’m happy to discuss it. but if you are only interested in leveling unsubstantiated charges and name calling, then i would have to call your honesty into question. whichever path you choose, you certainly have not presented yourself as a follower of the supposed teachings of Jesus Christ. did he teach you to assume what people believe and then call them names?

I do not agree with this at all. If your saying the earth is flat, then everything there is to know about science is wrong. The circumference of the earth was already calculated thousands of years ago in Egypt. Cassini found an approximate distance using parallax.

Your diagram with the triangle is completely out of whack. First of all, you would have to calculate the 3000 miles through the earth, not around it. marking out 300 miles along a curve and calling that a triangle is an outright lie. Second , you’re between the tropic of cancer, and the arctic circle, which skews the angle further. You are measuring wrong. Not only that but it’s obvious your measurements are off by more just a little, your measurements are literally fictitious, and made up for this exercise. If you calculated your little diagram correctly you would see that the 45 degree light rays coming into New England are, at best, damn near parallel to the light rays coming in at 90 degrees 1/8th of the way AROUND the world. Interesting terminology there, we always say “Around the world” We never say “Across the world” I wonder why that is. . . You guys, all around the world should start saying only the phrase “Across the world” when referring to anywhere in particular, so that we can pick you out for the mentally challenged lunatics you are.
