I’m sorry to question things, but both photos in the article show quite noticeable curvature if you put a ruler against them. So what are they meant to show?

I don’t have be-LIE-fs Sir, I am a skeptic investigator where all is possible and nothing is true. We are only using less than 15% of brains, they say, so why should anyone have belief systems when so much is unknown is beyond me. I have posted over 600 posts on FE so those who ask inane questions like “doesn’t look straight to me” when i simply added a ruler to prove you wrong, is suspect Mike.

and you just proved my point, unless you’re going to claim it shows a curve. Then do the spherical math. Mi x Mi X 8 inches to get curve distance.
If that is say a picture of 1,000 miles then 1,000 x 1,000 x 8 inches we get a curve of over 12 miles, you see 12 miles Mike of curvature?

jwlpeace – I am confused here. The title of the page says “F-L-A-T” and now you agree that it is not flat, but say it should be MORE curved. Shouldn’t the page be – “Original First Photo of Earth From First Mercury Launch in 1961…Not as Curved as You Might Expect!!!”

Just did some measuring, I make the curve about 1 part in 70. For a 1,000 mile horizon, that would give about 14 miles of curve. Do you measure it differently?

Here I thought I was agreeing, and affirming what you said. The references were for those specifically unfamiliar with the terms, and I felt you would easily recognize these as applicable, and see them as neutral.
BTW, The linked pdf is a nice artifact. I was amused to see the entertainment list in the back for the deployed sailors.
