#18 Is the Earth a Sphere? Cruisin’ at 30,000 ft.

“….We’ll Be Cruising at 30,000 ft. for the next 4 hours.”

If the Earth were a sphere, airplane pilots would have to constantly correct their altitudes downwards so as to not fly straight off into “outer space!” If the Earth were truly a sphere 25,000 miles circumference curveting 8 inches per mile squared, a pilot wishing to simply maintain their altitude at a typical cruising speed of 500 mph, would have to constantly dip their nose downwards and descend 2,777 feet (over half a mile) every minute! Otherwise, without compensation, in one hour’s time the pilot would find themselves 166,666 feet (31.5 miles) higher than expected!

A plane flying at a typical 35,000 feet wishing to maintain that altitude at the upper-rim of the so-called “Troposphere” in one hour would find themselves over 200,000 feet high into the “Mesosphere” with a steadily raising trajectory the longer they go. I have talked to several pilots, and no such compensation for the Earth’s supposed curvature is ever made. When pilots set an altitude, their artificial horizon gauge remains level and so does their course; nothing like the necessary 2,777 foot per minute declination is ever taken into consideration.

To maintain a 30,000 ft. altitude around a round Earth, the airplane would have to be angled significantly lower than in the rear of the airplane to maintain a 30,000 foot relationship to the Earth’s curvature.

Yet this never, ever happens. When traveling in an airplane it is level form nose to stern.

This means that the Earth is not a globe but is a level piece of land below us while in flight.

If one says that we are in a vacuum and gravity holds us in, then how is plane able to “escape” Earth’s gravity pull upon reaching cruising altitude when NASA tells us that it would require

From the surface of the Earth, escape velocity (ignoring air friction) is about 7 miles per second, or 25,000 miles per hour. Given that initial speed, an object needs no additional force applied to completely escape Earth’s gravity.

Basic Geometry on a Sphere

The Global Earth theorists for 500 years have been telling us the Earth is a sphere. IF the earth is a globe, and is 25,000 English statute miles in circumference, the surface of all standing water must have a certain degree of convexity–every part must be an arc of a circle.

From the summit of any such arc there will exist a curvature or declination of 8 inches in the first statute mile. In the second mile the fall will be 32 inches; in the third mile, 72 inches, or 6 feet, as shown in the diagram above. Spherical trigonometry dictates that a ball-Earth 25,000 miles in circumference would curvate 8 inches per mile varying inversely with the square of the mile, so after six miles there would be an easily detectable and measurable 16 feet, 8 inches of downward curvature.

To determine how much the Earth falls away on the curve you take miles squared X eight inches. This is an inverse relationship so the farther one travels the greater the distance of feet or miles the Earth will fall away.

Let the distance from T to figure 1 represent 1 mile, and the fall from 1 to A, 8 inches; then the fall from 2 to B will be 32 inches, and from 3 to C, 72 inches. In every mile after the first, the curvature downwards from the point T increases as the square of the distance multiplied by 8 inches. The rule, however, requires to be modified after the first thousand miles. 1

Miles squared X 8 inches
one foot = .000189394 miles

Curvature of Earth
1 mile 5.33 ft.  or .12626 mile

10 miles 66.666 ft. or 1.2626 miles

100 miles 6,666.66 ft. or 12.626 miles

So the farther one travels the greater the drop (or rise) in distance.

Non NASA camera records continual Flat Earth on plane

Published on Dec 24, 2014

Check out this excellent amateur balloon footage of our flat, motionless Earth! You can clearly see the Sun is NOT 93 million miles away as we’re told. This is evidenced by the hot-spot seen on the clouds directly underneath the Sun as it moves over the Earth. Over 20 miles high and the horizon remains perfectly flat and rises to the eye-level of the observer all the way up. If the Earth were a ball, no matter how big, the horizon could not rise with the observer like this. On a ball-Earth the horizon would stay where it was and you would have to look DOWN to the horizon further and further the higher you rose.

I created a flight plan from JFK airport (New York State) to an airport in California and the altitude was a constant 5000ft except for takeoff and the descent. I can email you the pdf screenshots. This is even more proof that the earth is not round.

Do you genuinely believe, if they didn’t keep making downward corrections, that airline pilots would fly off into space?

An aeroplane flying at constant velocity will follow the curvature of the earth, with no input from the pilot required. There’s no great mystery or cover-up here. Or flat earth.

the math is miles x miles x 8 inches to follow the curvature of the Earth which means a plane flying West to East at 500 mph would have to adjust for curvature one-half mile per EACH minute of travel which means the nose of the aircraft would be pointed significantly lower than the tail.
It’s all a lie. All of it.

The problem here isn’t the math, it is a misunderstanding about how planes/flying work. The altimeter measures altitude where you are, not where you will be in a minute, ten minutes, or an hour. The airplane is constantly adjusting for minor changes in pressure, wind resistance, etc (this is either done by autopilot in large planes or manually by the pilot in small planes). The adjustment is always based on what the altimeter reads at the current moment and the pilot (or the plane) is not going to distinguish those earth-curve adjustments from any other adjustments he is constantly making anyway.

      BASIC MATH

If a plane is traveling at 500 mph Eastward, then according to Spherical Geometry (miles x miles x 8 inches) the plane would have to correct it’s altitude one HALF MILE PER MINUTE to maintain equidistance of altitude when flying around a round ball Earth, yet a plane is level when flying. The nose of the airplane would consistently be pointed down some 15 degrees, yet doesn’t. hmmm.

I’m sensing a mocking tone with your “basic math” phrase, but you haven’t included your calculations in a clear way.

Here are mine: 500 miles per hour divided by 60 gives you 8.33 miles per minute. Multiply 8.333 miles per minute times 8 inches of drop per mile and you get 66.66 inches dropped every minute of flying. Divide 66.66 inches by 12 to get 5.5-ish feet dropped every minute.

So every minute, (and therefore 8-or-so miles of flight), the plane drops 5 feet. That is a very tiny angle of drop and would be hardly noticeable by pilot or passengers. Like I said, it would be indistinguishable from normal adjustments for changes in pressure, wind, etc.

Actually…………………., Actually…………., a cruising plane’s nose is PITCHED UPWARDS. at about 5 degrees.

You can’t have lift without drag, but you can certainly have drag without lift — that’s what you get for a symmetric fuselage at 0° angle of attack. If you pitch it slightly to give a small angle of attack, you’re converting some of the drag-without-lift to drag-with-lift. Basic physics (or Aerodynamics), something flat earth freaks have no comprehension over.

Nose up (angle of attack) is needed to maintain lift. If you flew nose DOWN, the thrust would push you towards the ground VERY QUICKLY, gaining speed as you went.

Now for Earth curvature, I guess Pythagoras was wrong.

Now, If the earth is flat, why can’t you see distant objects ?. You cannot see something 40 miles without the need for altitude. at ground level you have LIMITED view of the horizon. To see 40 miles you need an ALTITUDE of 1000 feet. To see 150 Miles, you need an altitude of 14500 feet.

I like seeing the debate here. It’s interesting. Here is a some official “ball earth” theory as to why one doesn’t fly off the earth:

wd25 Nice try in your calculation. You forgot to square the miles. You were only using the 8″ per mile variance which would produce no noticeable change. (New calculation: If your going 500 miles per hour, you are going 50 miles in 6 minutes. Using the curvature formula 50 miles would be a drop of 1,666 ft. in that 6 minutes or a 278 ft. drop per minute. Little less than a football field drop per minute. Which would be a noticeable drop.

      • wd25 January 17, 2017 at 9:50 pm

Don Kosky, your earth curve formula is correct, but you cannot arbitrarily choose 50 miles and use that spot, because the curve drop is not linear. For example, if you are going 50 miles in 6 minutes, then you are also going 100 miles in 12 minutes. Earth curve formula at 100 miles gives 6667 ft of drop. Divide 6667 ft by 12 and you get 556 feet drop per minute. That doesn’t agree with your calculation of 278ft per minute, does it? And every point you choose will give a different answer.

My calculation above chooses a random point too (1 mile), but since it is a smaller distance, it is closer to the actual value. As I said, it is not a linear calculation. A plane cannot just aim straight for whatever point you choose in the distance and fly through the earth to get to it. (picture a point 1/4 the way around the globe, and then it is easier to visualize. The shortest (linear) way to that point is through the earth. But that isn’t possible). A plane flying a long distance in one direction is constantly adjusting. It does not make one adjustment and then stick with it for 1 mile, 50 miles, or 100 miles.

As I mentioned above, this entire question assumes a plane can do something it cannot do for long periods of time. They do not fly in a straight line for hours (straight as defined by geometry). They usually fly at a constant altitude, which means over time, yes, you are adjusting for the curve of the earth. But you are also adjusting for many other things, so a pilot or autopilot does not differentiate earth curve adjustments from other ones, like wind.

I came across this article recently and it has absolutely nothing to do with flat earth but the info contained within surely proves without a doubt that flat earth does not and CAN NOT exist.

        http://mashable.com/2016/10/24/air-india-record-fastest-longest-delhi-san-francisco-flight/#NNdKz0kQ.Oqu

        notice what it says:
“Air India’s flight AI173 earlier this month flew 15,300 km from New Delhi to San Francisco through the trans-Pacific route instead of the usual Atlantic route, which is shorter in length.”

“But flying eastwards also meant that the wind was travelling in the same direction as the flight AI173. The Atlantic route would have subjected the flight to face the winds head-on, which would have slowed down the speed, and hence increased the duration of the flight and consumption of fuel.”

So basically the pilot has an option to fly EITHER east OR west to arrive at the same destination. IMPOSSIBLE on a flat earth but what one would expect on a globe earth.
This article alone debunks this flat earth crap easily without a doubt.
WAKE UP people and don’t fall for the stupidity that is the flat earth conspiracy. smh.

    I have a question!

If the earth is in fact a sphere rotating at an astonishing 1000 mph in an Eastward direction, how would an airplane traveling East at 500mph EVER reach it’s destination? Wouldn’t a plane flying West be traveling at a speed greater than 1000mph in relation to the spinning Earth? Wouldn’t that break the sound barrier?

    • wd25 June 9, 2016 at 6:21 pm Reply

The earth’s atmosphere rotates with the earth. Therefore, a plane traveling IN the atmosphere is completely unaffected by the motion of the earth relative to other things. The 500 mph is, after all, a measurement of the speed of the plane with respect to a fixed point on the earth, not with respect to any motion of the earth.

Similarly, a housefly INSIDE that airplane could fly back and forth and be unaffected by what speed the plane was going. Now, if the housefly was moving forward toward the front of the plane at 5mph, would you then say it was flying at 505mph? You “could”, if you mean the fly’s speed with respect to the earth. But it is probably easier to understand if you say the fly was traveling at 5mph and the plane it was inside is traveling at 500mph. The housefly’s speed is measured with respect to the plane. The plane’s speed is measured with respect to a fixed point on the ground. If you want to always talk with respect to a point on the earth, the housefly is either going 505mph (500+5) when flying to the front of the plane or 495mph (500-5) when flying toward the rear of the plane.

All that to say, the speed of earth’s rotation at 1000mph is not a measurement with respect to a fixed point on the earth. It is with respect to a fixed point OFF the earth. Therefore if you want to talk with respect to that point, you need to fix your plane speed. It is either going 1500mph (1000+500) when traveling with the rotation or 500mph (1000-500) when going against the rotation. Even though the plane is always traveling 500mph, just like the fly is always traveling 5mph.

Sorry, that got a bit more complex than I planned. 🙂

Cause I’ve did the math and it’s pointless to have it in the equation. Is it just thrown in there to make the theory seem official or what?

That would be an altitude of 30k ft..” Once you define altitude, you can begin to get more details of what this statement says. Eventually, you should get to an actual answer, and the meaning of that statement.

From my experience, when released, a helium balloon floats up (towards the sky above), and a baseball falls down (towards the ground below). These are the up/down directions I know of.

This has been true when I stand in America (N-S-E-W), Mexico, Canada, and Japan [so far], where planes are always above me. I expect the same would happen in China.

I’d love to stand on the equator and watch the sun and moon during either equinox, as they move exactly from east to west. The videos of FE shows something entirely different, yet no explanation why is to be found (afaik).

Maybe no one else is claiming it….but it IS flying upside down in the Southern Hemisphere if the earth is a sphere. Rather uncomfortable for the occupants of the plane, wouldn’t you say? The people on the ground in the Southern Hemisphere are also hanging upside down, if the earth is a sphere. Do you feel as if you’re hanging upside down right now? Of course not, because you aren’t! Your feet are planted on a flat surface. Irrefutable logic if you simply LOOK at a ‘globe’ and imagine the airplane and the people on the ground.

(This reply is to Gaddiel) actually, we do not feel that we are upside down because we are drawn towards the core, not pulled downwards, if we are at the south pole we would be pulled in a direction which people at the north pole would say is ‘up’, because we are always pulled to the core, not in a singular direction which the entire earth is subject to.

Nothing impossible about it, you can circle around ether way just like a 3 dimension circle.

We have been taught, contrary to all common sense and experience, that the seemingly motionless, flat Earth beneath our feet is actually a massive moving ball spinning through space at over 1,000 miles per hour, wobbling and tilted 23.5 degrees on its vertical axis, while orbiting the sun at a blinding 67,000 miles per hour, in concert with the entire solar system spiraling 500,000 miles per hour around the Milky Way and careening across the expanding universe away from the “Big Bang” at an incredible 670,000,000 miles per hour, but that you feel and experience none of it! We have been taught that a mysterious force called “gravity,” a magical magnetism responsible for keeping everything from falling or flying off the spinning ball-Earth, is just strong enough to hold people, oceans, and the atmosphere tightly to the surface, but just weak enough to allow bugs, birds and planes to take off with ease!

Um, because the animals are lighter, and their wingspan and wings are quite big in relevance to their size, also the smaller a creature the lighter it is, so the wingspan can be much smaller in ratio than bigger objects, and as it was proved by someone in an experiment, heavier things fall faster than smaller items in accordance to their weight.

If you can’t scan the horizon with a telescope and see Mt Everest, then the earth isn’t flat, on a flat surface it’s impossible for a shorter object to block out a taller object. If you can watch a ship disappear over the horizon with a telescope, the earth isn’t flat, it doesn’t get too far away to see, it drops out of sight while still big enough to see clearly with the telescope (I know, I’ve spent a lot of hours on the beach with a telescope). Forget about flying with the curvature of the earth, you don’t even need to leave the ground to see the effects of the curvature of the earth. But just for fun, somebody please try to explain how man has managed to explore every continent, island, polar ice cap and ocean on earth and yet not a single one of those explorers has found the edge of the earth, if it’s flat, it’s gotta have an edge somewhere, where is it?

To Arn Lewis: Just because we can’t see Mt. Everest from New York doesn’t mean the earth is a sphere. Everest is roughly 29,035 feet and thousands of miles away from New York so the DISTANCE is the obstacle to seeing it, not the curvature of the earth. Same thing with the optical illusion of a ship disappearing over the horizon. With the naked eye you’d see nothing; the telescope allows you to perceive the ship, and the disappearing act means it moved out of the range of the telescope’s ability to track it..
Explorers in these remote areas don’t necessarily reach or not reach the edge of the earth: We are just given stories to believe by the media re: the outcome of these ventures. Interestingly, many of these men die under mysterious circumstances. I just finished reading that many of these remote outer areas are now MILITARIZED and completely unavailable to any civilian attempt to explore them.
The ‘we are on a globe story’ conveniently promotes heliocentrism, which is the central doctrine necessary to push the religion of evolution and the origin of our planet.

Wrong, if the earth was a flat plain, we could see the reflected light till the ‘so called’ edge unless something is blocking it in the distance, because light is very fast, but we can’t because the curvature means that the light would to bend, something which light cannot, do.

Compare 2 flight paths San Francisco to New York
    The earth spins at 1000mph
The plane has to do 1000mph just to keep up with the spinning earth and 2000mph to get there in 3 hours
On the return flight the plane needs to fly up and wait for the earth to come around 3hours or flying at 2000mph plus earth spin 3000mph would arrive in 1hour

    It’s all very confusing

What I do know based on conventional theory is that the sun follows the earth in a helical orbit
What causes the planets further away to keep up with a moving sun. All in helical orbits

Have you ever hung upside down in the schoolyard on a jungle jim, or hung in Batman boots upside down? Most of us have, the latter choice being ostensibly good for the spine. You will notice that within a short time, your head and neck feel as if they’re going to burst because your heart can’t handle the inability to recirculate the blood to the rest of the body.

Therefore, the blood accumulates in the head and neck and is not a healthy situation for very long. This effect happens, EVEN WITH GRAVITY HOLDING YOU TO THE GROUND WHILE YOU ARE UPSIDE DOWN!!!!
Now…take your desk globe and dust it off. Use a push pin (best option, as it duplicates the upright stature of the human body), a red dot, a small round sticky circle, or whatever you have. (We glued a tiny plastic man to the spot where we live, and laughed heartily at the results).
Place it over the spot on the globe where you live. Slowly turn the globe. Now remember, your feet are stuck to the ground by gravity and no ‘adjustments’ are in progress by a computer, to compensate for the turning of the planet.

OOOOPS! In a short time, you’ll see that your body, in relation to the surface of the earth, will be either 1) totally upside down 2) perpendicular to the earth, or 3) at any number of odd, wild angles from the earth’s surface as the planet turns.
The only people who would feel anywhere near ‘normal’ and not like their head was bursting, would be those in the extreme northern extremities of the planet. They’d be the only ones mostly ‘right-side up”. No one can challenge this; it’s the plain truth of the matter!

So, why is it what we don’t feel the blood pressure in our heads and necks rising to deadly levels, while we hang upside down or in other bizarre, physiologically inane positions…on a rapidly spinning sphere?
I’ve already used the Batman boots-schoolyard jungle jim model to prove your body WILL feel the effect of upside down, regardless of gravity.
This isn’t the only proof I’ve explored, but it’s the easiest to understand…….especially when you remember how bad it feels to hand upside down longer than five minutes…..:)

I copy/pasted this excerpt from Amazon, who sells this book. I haven’t read the book and have no affiliation with it except to say it sounds like a winner that should be read. With all this spinning, orbiting and speeding, we should all be feeling pretty shook up, lol.

“This book reveals the mother of all conspiracies. It sets forth biblical proof and irrefutable evidence that will cause the scales to fall from your eyes and reveal that the world you thought existed is a myth. The most universally accepted scientific belief today is that the earth is a globe, spinning on its axis at a speed of approximately 1,000 miles per hour at the equator, while at the same time it is orbiting the sun at approximately 67,000 miles per hour. All of this is happening as the sun, in turn, is supposed to be hurtling though the Milky Way galaxy at approximately 500,000 miles per hour. The Milky Way galaxy, itself, is alleged to be racing through space at a speed ranging from 300,000 to 1,340,000 miles per hour. What most people are not told is that the purported spinning, orbiting, and speeding through space has never been proven. In fact, every scientific experiment that has ever been performed to determine the motion of the earth has proven that the earth is stationary. Yet, textbooks ignore the scientific proof that contradicts the myth of a spinning and orbiting globe. Christian schools have been hoodwinked into teaching heliocentrism, despite the clear teaching in the bible that the earth is not a sphere and does not move. This book reveals the evil forces behind the heliocentric deception, and why scientists and the Christian churches have gone along with it”.

Actually, because we are so small, no more than tiny itty-bitty very small specks, we wouldn’t be able to feel it due to gravity, and do cells feel it when we walk from the kitchen to the living room which would look like a gazillion miles to them? Course not!

The earth is spinning at 1,000 mph towards the east?
One would expect a constant easterly in the face
We can also at times experience a westerly wind
Where does the westerly wind get it’s force to overtake us

If a drop of water is on a glass and I spin the glass, the water stays in place unless I spin it very fast. The atmosphere moves with the earth in the same way. It is very thin compared to the earth’s size. (If the earth were the size of a basketball, the atmosphere would be similar thickness to wrapping one sheet of plastic cling wrap perfectly around the ball)

Have you ever flown in a a large airplane? Aside from takeoff and landing, did you feel as if you were going 500mph? So why would you feel the spin of the earth if you and everything around you is going the same speed?

wd25 dont even bother with these foolios they literally dont have or understand basic physics. Until they get a grip on that its like trying to convince a 2 year old that santa doesn’t exist.

Try your glass 70 percent covered with water and then spin as slow as you like. The fact that a drop has enough surface tension to hold to a glass in no way compares to a body of water and how any motion will affect that body as a unit. Ripples, waves, tides, and eddies.

      Water ALWAYS seeks level.

Try filling that glass with water and giving it a spin. That would be a better comparison.

Comparing the earth and atmosphere to a pressurized airplane is not working for me either. As soon as you get up and walk to the back of that plane you know it isn’t like walking to the west as opposed to walking to the east on the ground. Planes taking off would experience different forces going west as opposed to east and differing forces heading north vs south.

Where does the atmosphere spin end and the vacuum of space begin? What causes winds to flow against the spin? Where’s the bleeping earth cam?!!

There are several reasons and each one make a lot of sense. If you’d only ACTUALLY do your own research instead of just take uninformed youtube videos as your source you’d actually have an answer.

1: Until recently, regulators have insisted that twin-engine jets must always be within three hours of a suitable place to land. This is because the failure of one engine on such a plane is potentially far more serious than for one with three or four.
However, commercial flights do fly over the North Pole. For example:
a number of flights that flies between US and Asia will fly over the North Pole
      Denver to Delhi

2: It is becoming more common to have flights over the North Pole, also known as ‘the Polar Route’ or ‘Santa’s Shortcut’ (look it up). The airspace was opened up in 1998 and restrictions were further relaxed in 2011. For instance, most routes connecting Eastern seaboard of the US to East Asia (e.g. New York to Hong Kong, Shanghai or Seoul) now do that.
Any flight route would meet the criteria of a Polar Route if it cuts through 78th parallel ( latitude).

3: An airline route/ flight plan is created based on the following:
      a) – Shortest distance based on the curvature of the Earth: Also known as ‘Great Circle’ Route. It can an seem a bit counter-intuitive for those of us used to flat-maps. This is the biggest factor. A route based on this would most often result in the shortest flying time and lowest fuel costs (the biggest expense for an airline)
      This is usually adjusted for,
      b) – Established Air Route Segments (Waypoints): These have long been established and take into account issues like emergency airports, radar locations, air traffic control, overflight permissions etc. A flight-plan is, at its core, simply a sequential listing of way-points.
      c) – Prevailing Winds and Weather: Seasonal winds are a big factor. They are often the reason that the ‘fro’ trip route runs hundreds of miles away from the ‘to’ trip route and is many hours shorter/ longer.

        I would add #4:

Commercial viability of the route – can you get enough paying passengers that want or need to travel between the end-points of the flight-segment.

After all, how many people want to fly from Barrow, AK to Moscow?

All this 8″ drop per mile only works for the first mile

Viewing a side elevation of the ’round’ earth

To travel from on top (North) to east is in a straight line a 45 degree angle

Leaving North and travel horizontal for 4,000 miles (Earth’s approx. radius) would put us straight over East and a 4,000 mile drop to get there

Which means for every horizontal mile travelled a drop of 1 mile is required to follow the curve to get from N to E

Means if the curvature is 8″ in the first mile how much would it be in the last mile
The last 8″ would have a drop of a mile. It is almost vertical

Not sure I am helping here

The answer you dumb bastards is “gravity”.. Couple your geometry/trigonometry with some simple physics(proven science of unseen forces) and youll get your answer… Then maybe the majority of you poster’s will stop talkin fkn crap just to make you sound intelligent, fkn numbskulls!!!!

The problem is that you’re not doing the correct math equation. You’re taking the drop in 500 miles, 166,667ft and dividing by 60 minutes, or total flight time, to get the correct but ridiculous number of 2,777ft per minute drop.

To simplify, use 600 miles per hour, divide by 60 minutes means you’re flying 10 miles per minute, 10x10x8/12=67ft roughly. So, which is it? Is the plane dropping 2,777ft per minute or 67ft per minute? Neither.

If the plane is flying 10 miles per minute that means it’s going 1 mile in 6 seconds. Is an 8 inch drop in 6 seconds the correct answer? That’s really not much of a drop but that’s still not correct.

A 747 is about 250ft in length. 250ft/5280=.0473 of a mile. The plane is .0473 of a mile long.

.0473x.0473×8=.017 of an inch. In the planes length the earth drops .017 of an inch. That’s just a little over 1/64th of an inch.

Theoretically an airplane could maintain a flight altitude just a little over 1/64th of an inch out of level and circumnavigate the entire globe.

I say theoretically because there are so many forces involved the plane’s computer or the pilot are always making corrections.

Hopefully facts will prevail in this silly flat earth craze!
